WebCam-Mic-Tester

Free online web cam mic test

Preview, record, play back or download. Your media stays in your browser.

A web cam mic test before your next call

WebCam-Mic-Tester helps you check your camera and microphone before meetings, interviews, lessons, or recordings. Use this webcam and mic test online to preview your picture, watch microphone input levels, and hear a recorded sample. There is no software to install or account to create. Enable either device independently, or test both together. This free web cam test keeps the controls simple, with additional settings available through the ellipsis button.

Run a live web cam test

Press the camera icon and allow camera access when your browser asks. Your live preview shows framing, lighting, and focus so you can adjust your position before connecting with someone. Open Extras to choose another camera, request a resolution, mirror the preview, enter fullscreen, or download a snapshot. For a laptop web cam test or USB web cam test, select the device you actually intend to use. Actual resolution depends on camera capabilities.

Mic test online: record and hear yourself

Enable the microphone, then speak at your normal conversation volume. The input meter in Extras responds to sound and helps you spot a quiet signal or excessive volume. For a free mic test online with playback, press record, say a few sentences, then press stop. Select play to hear yourself. Listen for background noise, distortion, or missing audio. Headphones help prevent feedback while the microphone remains enabled. Playback checks the captured recording, rather than continuously sending microphone sound to your speakers.

For a headset or headphone mic test online, check that the browser selected the microphone rather than your laptop's built-in input. If you run a live mic test online in Chrome, Safari, or another supported browser, compare a quiet room with your usual workspace. Move closer to the microphone and record again to judge whether speech becomes clearer.

Choose your camera, headset, or microphone

A camera and mic test online can help you compare your built-in devices with compatible external equipment. Try a headset mic test online, select a USB microphone, or choose a browser-recognized Logitech webcam. Bluetooth microphone availability and sound quality depend on your operating system and connection. On an iPhone or another mobile device, supported inputs and browser permissions can differ. This tool cannot override those restrictions or guarantee compatibility with every device.

Record, play back, and download locally

Record video and audio together, video alone, or microphone audio alone. Recording continues until you press stop; there is no automatic time limit. A visible timer and captured file size help you track progress. Once finished, play the result or download it in the format your browser produces. Recordings stay in browser memory, so a warning appears at 100 MB without stopping capture. Keep the tab open and your device awake. Stop and download periodically, especially on mobile devices, because very large recordings can exhaust memory.

Why is my web cam test not working?

If the preview is blank, check site permissions, reconnect the camera, and close other applications using it. If microphone levels stay flat, choose the correct input and check hardware mute switches. A Zoom mic test online can help identify input problems before a meeting, but Zoom or Google Meet still needs its own permissions and device settings. Try the speaker test in Extras if playback is silent, and check system volume. Use a current browser over HTTPS.

A private check, not a call service

This online web cam test does not upload your video or audio. Turn devices off when finished, and download recordings before leaving. Return to the tester whenever you change equipment or prepare for another call.

Supported browsers and microphones

Use this free webcam test to check a camera preview, or as an online webcam recorder with audio playback and downloads. Extras includes a webcam mirror, snapshots, and the camera's reported resolution and frame rate (FPS), when available. These reported settings are not a benchmark or a scan of every supported resolution.

Supported browsers

Current versions with the required media APIs are expected to work:

  • Google ChromeDesktop and Android.
  • Microsoft EdgeDesktop and Android.
  • Mozilla FirefoxDesktop and Android.
  • Apple SafarimacOS, iPhone, and iPad.

Supported microphones

Inputs your operating system and browser can recognize:

  • Built-in laptop, desktop, phone, and tablet microphones.

  • Bluetooth headset and earbud microphones, when exposed as an audio input.

This list describes expected compatibility, not certification of every device; choose an available microphone in Extras after granting permission.

Webcam and microphone test FAQs

What is the best online mic test?

The best online mic test depends on what you need to check. Look for an input level meter, recording and playback so you can hear yourself, device selection, and a clear privacy policy. WebCam-Mic-Tester provides these checks for free in your browser and does not upload your audio. A browser test checks the selected input; meeting apps still have their own permissions and settings.

How can I test my mic online?

Click the microphone icon and allow microphone access in your browser. Open Extras to choose the correct input and watch the level meter while you speak. Press record, say a few sentences, then press stop. Use play to hear your recording and check for background noise, distortion, or low volume. You can test the microphone without turning on the camera. Use headphones to prevent feedback while the microphone is enabled.

How do I test my web cam?

Click the camera icon and allow camera access in your browser. Check the live preview to see your framing, lighting, and focus. Open Extras to select the intended built-in or USB camera, change the requested resolution, mirror the preview, or enter fullscreen. To check a video recording, press record and then stop before playing it back. Enable the microphone as well if you want to test video and audio together. Turn the camera off when you finish.
